Ready for Service, Nusantara Lima Satellite Supports National Space Independence

Jakarta, May 13th, 2026 – The Nusantara Lima Satellite (N5 Satellite) has officially entered its operational phase and is ready for commercialization after being successfully launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States, on September 12th, 2025. This success marks a new chapter for the N5 Satellite in supporting the rise of internet and digital connectivity capacity across Indonesia, while serving as a vital component in realizing national space sovereignty.

The Nusantara Lima Satellite Ready for Service Ceremony was attended by the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid; Chief of the Presidential Staff, Prof. Dudung Abdurachman; Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Stella Christie; President of Boeing Satellite Systems International Inc., Ryan Reid; Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Space Association, Burhanuddin Abdullah; Secretary General of the Indonesian Space Association, Aryo Djojohadikusumo; President Commissioner of PSN Group, Sofyan Djalil; Commissioner of PSN Group, Retno Marsudi; President Commissioner of PSN, Erry Riana; and Managing Director of Sinar Mas, Ferry Salman, as well as all stakeholders participating in this project.

The N5 Satellite will play a strategic and crucial role in improving services in the sectors of education, health, government services, digital economy, defense, and security, as well as other regions that have yet to enjoy high-quality internet services, particularly those in Frontier, Outermost, and Disadvantaged (3T) areas.

Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, stated that President Prabowo Subianto wants Indonesia to be present in various contexts on the international stage, not only in geopolitics but also in space. Currently, digital connectivity in Indonesia has reached 80% of the total population connected to internet services. This means the government still has homework regarding the remaining 20% so that all Indonesian people can enjoy high-quality internet services.

“Our hope is for 280 million Indonesian citizens to be connected—not just in areas near Java, but various other regions from Sabang to Merauke, and Rote to Miangas. We believe the presence of the N5 Satellite is to maintain the three pillars: Connected, Growing, and Protected. We express our appreciation to PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara and PT Satelit Nusantara Lima for the success in completing all stages of development, launch, and operation of the N5 Satellite, which has become the satellite with the largest capacity in Asia,” said Meutya in her speech.

President Director of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) Group, Adi Rahman Adiwoso, explained that the operation of the N5 Satellite is an important symbol for the country in maintaining national independence in the space sector. Furthermore, the presence of the N5 Satellite is a form of Indonesia’s rising strength in providing digital connectivity in Asia, expanding services to Malaysia and Philippines. Currently, Indonesia is the largest player in Asia’s satellite internet industry with a total capacity of 403 Gbps.

“We launched the N5 Satellite as a concrete manifestation that PSN Group continues to strive to ensure Indonesia can play a role on the global stage. With the largest capacity in Asia, Indonesia has a guaranteed satellite capacity and is opening a new chapter to step forward in the development of the space industry. Satellite technology and space activities have now become a necessity,” said Adi Rahman.

The N5 Satellite becomes the largest satellite in Asia with Very High Throughput Satellite (VHTS) specifications and a capacity of 160 Gbps, designed to support national digital transformation across all corners of Indonesia and ASEAN countries such as the Philippines and Malaysia. Utilizing Boeing 702MP platform with 101 spot beams operating in the Ka-band frequency, the 7.8-ton satellite is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system—using both chemical propulsion and Xenon-Ion (XIPS) electronic propulsion—which is ten times more efficient than conventional satellites.

To support its operations and services, N5 Satellite has 7 ground stations located in Banda Aceh, Bengkulu, Cikarang, Gresik, Banjarmasin, Tarakan, and Kupang. The ground stations are spread from Western, Central, to Eastern Indonesia so that N5 Satellite services can reach the Frontier, Outermost, and Disadvantaged (3T) regions that have struggled to obtain internet access. This satellite is also designed for an operational lifespan of over 15 years.

“Satellite technology is now one of the indicators of a nation’s strength and independence; we must be brave enough to rely on our own national capacity. The importance of sovereign capability for Indonesia is closely related to the nation’s ability to be independent, to control, and to have full command over strategic sectors to protect national interests. Space is one of the symbols of a nation’s sovereign rights,” said Adi Rahman.

President of Boeing Satellite Systems International Inc., Ryan Reid, said that handing over SNL to PSN marks significant progress for improved connectivity in Southeast Asian countries. “I’m proud of our team for delivering this state-of-the-art capability to PSN and continuing Boeing’s longstanding history in Indonesia to improve connectivity through satellite communications, ensuring people from school communities to emergency responders, have the advanced network support they need for everyday life.” said Ryan Reid.

Cerdiq, Satellite-Based Internet Service

As a testament of the company’s commitment to providing high-quality internet services for the Indonesian people, PSN introduces its latest product, Cerdiq. Adi Rahman explained that Cerdiq is a user terminal created with the concepts of simplicity and lightweight design, developed by the PSN Research & Development team. The product will utilize N5 Satellite connectivity.

Adi Rahman continued that Cerdiq is part of one of PSN’s programs to enhance national independence, advance domestic industry, and prioritize the optimization of Local Content Requirements (TKDN) in manufacturing PSN products. The hope is to increase the competitiveness of domestic products in the global market.

“We invite all stakeholders to collaborate and build a national space ecosystem to achieve space sovereign capability. In this grand business journey, a clear goal is the foundation that will then determine the direction of Indonesia’s development and become a reference for all parties to move together. This journey will support the younger generation in realizing the Indonesia that is sovereign in the skies,” concluded Adi Rahman.
